Description
Four films based on the famous detective novels of Agatha Christie: three Hercule Poirot mysteries and one for Miss Marple. Albert Finney plays the moustache-twiddling Poirot in 'Murder on the Orient Express' (1974). Heading into heavy weather, the Orient Express gets stuck in the snow and overnight one of the passengers - the millionaire Ratchett - is repeatedly stabbed to death. Who did it? Luckily the famous detective Hercule Poirot is on hand to find out. In the star-studded 'Death on the Nile' (1978), Peter Ustinov takes on the role of Poirot. When a rich heiress is murdered aboard a steamship travelling down the Nile, Poirot discovers that almost all the passengers had a reason to kill her. Will he be able to locate the true culprit before the ship reaches port? Ustinov reprises the role in the 1982 film 'Evil Under the Sun', in which the Belgian detective solves a murder in a resort hotel. The film boasts an all-star cast, a Cole Porter score and a script by Anthony Schaffer. In the Miss Marple mystry 'The Mirror Crack'd' (1980), excitement runs high when feuding film stars Marina Rudd (Elizabeth Taylor) and Lola Brewster (Kim Novak) arrive in the sleepy English village of St Mary Mead, ready to begin work on a film about Elizabeth I and Lady Jane Grey. But the experience quickly turns sour when an innocent bystander drops dead at a party after drinking a poisoned cocktail. Everyone assumes the drink was intended for Marina, but local resident Miss Marple (Angela Lansbury) has her doubts and begins to investigate.
