Lasse Hallstrom brings John Irving's best-selling novel to the screen in this Oscar-winning film. Homor (Tobey Maguire) is an orphan who has been at the same orphanage all his life, under the tutorage of Dr. Larch (Michael Caine). Dr. Larch has been grooming him to be his successor when he retires but Homor wants more out of life and to start out on his own. While working at an apple orchard, he falls for Candy (Charlize Theron) who teaches him a few lessons in the art of life, love and home.
